Self portrait

Personal work. With this self-portrait I’m paying tribute to a virtual world that shaped me into who I am today.

While computer-generated images nowadays look just like the real thing, I look back fondly at the blocky, primitive virtual world of my youth. As a young queer person, it was a place where I could escape the ‘real world.’

By using oil on canvas, I aim to give this experience a timeless value in the realm of tangible art. I’m trying to bridge the gap between the primitive and the modern, between the tangible and the virtual.

Oil on canvas, 60x80cm.
